Can I drive a Motorhome on a regular car license?

Posted On 05/07/2018

What license do I need to drive a motor home?

We get this question quite a lot and it’s something we’d like to help you understand a bit better.

Yes you can drive most motor homes on a normal car license!
An average car license allows you to drive any motorhome/camper up to 3500kg. We order almost all of our new motorhomes on the lighter chassis and most of our second hand vehicles are also under 3.5 Tonne.

However there is an exception, if your license was issued before January 1997 that means you most likely have a C1 drivers license which allows you to drive any motorhome up to 7500kg. At the age of 70 there is restriction to driving under the 3500kg limit unless you pass a medical test.

Don’t worry we have all the weights of each motorhome, used and new clearly outlined on each product page on our website. So just check when scrolling through which motorhome you can legally drive.

Hopefully this has answered your questions concerning driving a motor home and which license is needed.
