Ring Of Kerry - TLL Road Trip Itinerary
Get back to nature with the perfect picturesque loop across the Ring of Kerry!
The Ring of Kerry route is 179km (111miles) in length and takes around 4 hours to drive, without stopping. However, it’s always better to take your time and experience the culture Kerry has to offer!
We Recommend you drive the Ring of Kerry anti-clockwise to avoid meeting tour buses on narrow roads.
We recommend starting your journey in Torc Waterfall, 7km from Killarney town centre. Once you are finished taking in the beauty of Torc make your way to the next stop on the route.
Heading North West in your camper, you will find Killarney National Park. This park is nestled at the foot of magnificent mountains. A paradise for outdoor lovers, here you will find 10,000 hectares of mountains, lakes and waterfalls. Once you are ready, make your way to Killarney and head through the little town. We recommend you stop at the cedar tree just outside the entrance – a sober reminder of Ireland’s past as it marks a mass grave for Ireland’s famine victims.
Passing through Fossa, you reach Ireland’s highest peak Carrauntoohil, standing tall at 1039 metres above sea level! You can choose the park up here for the night and relax with a beautiful serene view of Lough Leane.
You’ll find Kate Kearney’s Cottage at the entrance to the Gap of Dunloe. Kate’s Cottage is a 150+ year old family-run business where you can enjoy traditional hospitality. This premises is a café, restaurant & pub!
Once you’re fuelled up, it’s time to head for a walk in the Gap of Dunloe. We recommend walking this road as it can be quite popular during peak hours. The Gap of Dunloe was formed around 2 million years ago!
The massive beaches of Inch and Rossbeigh lie ahead at Dingle bay where the waves batter off the cliffs. Dingle bay is a perfect place to stop to cook lunch in your camper and check out ‘one of the most beautiful places on earth’ as quoted by National Geographic.
Valentia Island is one of Ireland’s most westerly points. When you arrive on the island, head up to the car park near Bray Head. There you can walk the Bray Head Loop which offers brilliant views out towards the Skellig Islands.
When you’re done here, make your way up to the Geokaun Mountain and Cliffs and start the steep ascent towards one of the best views on the Ring of Kerry.
South West from Valentia Island lays The Skellig Islands. These rock islands are an absolute must-see detour! The boat trip to the Skelligs takes 45 minutes and you will have 2 hours to explore! Most recently, the Skellig Islands are famous a filming location for Star Wars Episode VII & VIII.
We’re quickly approaching the end of our Ring of Kerry drive but don’t worry, we’ll be rounding it off with several bangs. Moll’s Gap is a bendy pass that offers spectacular views of the Macgillycuddy’s Reeks and the surrounding area.
