Argyll Coastal Route - TLL Scotland Road Trip Itinerary
Scotland undeniably has some of the most exquisite areas of natural beauty in the whole of the UK. If you’re a fan of seafood, sunsets and getting to visit some of the most iconic and jaw-dropping scenery in Scotland, then the Argyll Coastal Route is the road trip for you!
From the hub of Glasgow City to Fort William in the North, follow the western coast of Scotland and along Loch Lommond on this 375km (233 Miles) journey which takes around 5 hours 49 minutes non-stop, though we recommend taking a full 3 – 4 days to make the most of each stop on this coastal tour.

Fresh off the ferry at Stranraer, start your journey as your head into Glasgow and take in the sights and sounds of one of Scotland’s biggest cities. Allow yourself a few hours to shop on Glasgow’s famous Buchanan Street, catch up on some culture at the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum or explore the night life in a city with endless pubs, clubs, and restaurants.
Once you’ve had your fill of the city, follow the river Clyde out of Glasgow and upwards to Loch Lommond, making sure to stop and admire the beautiful countryside as you go.
Follow the road into Inveraray, a town built on a once fishing village where the shores of Loch Fyne meet Loch Shira. Visit Inveraray Castle, an iconic Scottish Castle home to the Campbell family, and seat of the Duke and Duchess of Argyll. Get your cameras at the ready and get a snap of the famous Aray Bridge while you go, before making your way to the next stop on your trip.
From the Gaelic language meaning ‘little bay’ Oban is considered the ‘Gateway to the Isles’ with views of the mountains, Lochs and various surrounding Islands. Grab some of the best fish and chips you’ll ever taste and watch the boats at the harbor. For a spectacular view, hike up to see McCaig’s tower and the sights across Oban Bay to the Atlantic Islands. Enjoy the tranquil life of the seaside town before setting off onto the next leg of your journey.
